Governor Ashe Visits Asia, Meets with BBG Staff, Dignitaries
BBG Governor Victor Ashe and Dan Southerland, Executive Editor of Radio Free Asia, completed a four-country trip to Asia. The trip started off Jan. 16 in Seoul, and from there, he went to Bangkok, Phnom Penh and wrapped up in Hong Kong.
While in Seoul, Ashe met with Andrei Lankov, Russian historian and expert on North Korea and U.S. Ambassador Kathleen Stephens. In Bangkok, he met with Shawn Crispin, “Asia Times Online” Editor and Senior Southeast Asia Representative for The Committee to Protect Journalists, and U.S. Ambassador Kristie Kenney. In Phnom Penh, he met with Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sar Keng, and Information Minister Khieu Khanarith. In addition, he met with U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia Carol Rodley. In Hong King, Ashe met with journalists. experts and U.S. officials, including Consul General Stephen Young.
The trip concluded Jan. 26.
During the trip, Ashe also met with RFA staff, VOA staff, and additional embassy personnel.
