Al Youm Anchors Meet with Egyptians for the Chance to Appear on Program
Alhurra Television’s Al Youm’s co-anchors met with thousands of fans in Cairo’s Tivoli Dome during their two-week campaign asking viewers to ‘tell us your story.’ Viewers were given the opportunity to meet anchors Amr Khalil and Engy Anwar and give a brief interview about why they should appear on Al Youm. Some of the participants with the most compelling narratives will have their story selected to be broadcast to millions of viewers on Al Youm. Stories chosen to appear on Al Youm will start airing the week of June 26th.
From June 1st to the 14th, fans flocked to the Al Youm booth set up at the entrance of Cairo’s famed Tivoli Dome, named by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest food court in the world, for the chance to tell their stories. Select interviews done at the booth will also appear on Al Youm’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/alyoumshow.
Al Youm’s Engy Anwar commented, “I was surprised at all of the incredible untold stories that we heard during the event. It was amazing to be able to connect with so many of the viewers on a one-on-one basis.”
“On Al Youm, we are interested in the human stories and how people are impacted by the news. The two weeks at Tivoli Dome really captured the spirit of Al Youm,” added Amr Khalil.
Al Youm fans who came out for the event also expressed their excitement. While visiting the Al Youm booth, Osama Hasenein stated that he thought this is a great idea and he wanted to thank Alhurra for hearing his story. Reem El Wardany expressed her surprise and pleasure at the opportunity to meet the Al Youm anchors. She said, “I am happy to have Engy and Amr among us today. Here are TV anchors who listen to the people’s opinion and who stand among the people.”
Both Cairo natives, Amr Khalil and Engy Anwar co-anchor Al Youm from Cairo and Dubai respectively.
