NPR Interviews RFA Reporter on Burma
NPR syndicated global affairs program Worldview interviewed RFA’s Burmese reporter Kyaw Kyaw Aung on October 18. The program’s host Jerome McDonnell talked to Kyaw Kyaw about Burma’s political future and his exclusive interview with Tint Swe, the powerful head of Burma’s Press Scrutiny and Registration Department. In the interview, Tint Swe pledged to end press censorship. With Burma’s recent release of political prisoners and allowing democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi to travel in the country, the official’s unprecedented remarks attracted wide attention and scrutiny among human rights and political observers around the world. Many global news sources and networks cited the RFA interview, including Agence France Presse, CNN, the Associated Press, BBC, Time magazine, and the New York Times.
