Alhurra’s White House Correspondent Hisham Bourar, left, interviewed the Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad-Eddine Al-Othmani when he was in Washington, D.C., to meet with Sec. Clinton.
During the in-depth interview, Othmani explained the reasons behind the failure to reach a breakthrough during the U.N.-mediated negotiations between Morocco and the Polisario Front in Manhasset, N.Y., regarding the Western Sahara conflict.
He also addressed the recent rapprochement between Morocco and Algeria to overcome tensions between the two countries. Othmani also revealed a series of steps that the Moroccan government is taking to respond to the increasing demands for better economic and social conditions for Moroccan citizens.
During the interview, Othmani acknowledged the challenges facing the new Islamist-led coalition government in Morocco including fighting corruption and winning the trust of the Moroccan people. He also discussed the criticism that the reforms made by the government are not sincere.
