BBG Hosts US Youth Observer to the United Nations
Today the Broadcasting Board of Governors hosted a visit from Brooke Loughrin, the first-ever US Youth Observer to the United Nations. Loughrin toured the Voice of America, and did an interview in English with the BBG Office of Policy as well as an interview in Farsi with the VOA Persian service.
Loughrin has previously traveled to Iran and is a strong proponent of public diplomacy.
“I would like to facilitate people-to-people interaction between Americans and Iranians,” she said.
The Youth Observer position is a part of the U.S. effort to increase youth interest and participation in international relations. As the Observer, Loughrin will attend events surrounding the UN General Assembly in New York, interact with youth representatives from other nations, and participate in other public activities. Loughrin has been in DC for the week, meeting with the U.S. Department of State and speaking with other international organizations.
