The Martí’s Bring Calle Ocho to Cuba!
Little Havana, Florida – On March 10, Radio and TV Martí will broadcast live from the Calle Ocho Carnival, the largest Hispanic celebration in the United States. Special programming will include not only the sights and sounds of the festival, but also messages from attendees in southern Florida to their loved ones in Cuba.
“At our pavilion on Calle Ocho we have an ‘open microphone’ so that messages can be sent throughout the day to Cuba,” said Oscar Rodriguez, Programing Director for Radio Martí. “This will be our third year to have an open mic, and it is amazing to see how many people reach out to their loved ones and friends. It shows tremendous solidarity, and from Cuba the people reciprocate.”
The 24-block celebration will be featured on Radio and TV Martí, with live streaming on Martinoticias.com.
Calle Ocho began in 1978 as a way for Cubans in Miami to celebrate their culture and share it with others. Through the years, the festival has grown in size and representation, with more than one million partiers attending every year.
