Alhurra Hits One Million ‘Likes’ on Facebook
Springfield, VA – Alhurra Television passed the one million “likes” mark on its Facebook page over the weekend. Fans use the page to engage the broadcaster and each other and discuss the latest news and information.
“We are excited that we have hit this milestone on Facebook. It is an important tool for our audience to interact with the network and each other about the stories impacting their lives. Since the Arab Spring, Middle East Broadcasting Networks and Alhurra TV have been focusing more on social media as a tool to disseminate news, as well as an outlet for viewers to express their thoughts and opinions,” stated MBN President Brian Conniff. MBN manages and operates Alhurra and Radio Sawa.
In addition to Alhurra’s Facebook page, the Radio Sawa Facebook page has passed 850,000 “likes.” Alhurra also has Facebook pages dedicated to many of its programs. Alhurra’s flagship program Al Youm has more than 400,000 Facebook “likes” and Rayheen ala Feen? has 200,000 “likes.”
Alhurra also reaches out through Twitter to send the latest headlines to its nearly 250,000 followers.
Surveys by research companies such as ACNielsen show that Alhurra has a weekly reach of more than 20 million adults. Alhurra is operated by The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN), a non-profit corporation financed by the U.S. Government through a grant from the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency. The BBG provides oversight and serves as a firewall to protect the professional independence and integrity of the broadcasters.
