Participants in the Congressional Partners Program (CPP) of the Partnership for a Secure America visited the BBG today to learn about the agency’s role in international affairs.
Director of Communications and External Affairs Lynne Weil, a CPP alumna, welcomed the group to the BBG. They discussed the role of international media and the evolving global news environment with IBB Deputy Director Jeff Trimble and André Mendes, the Director of Technology, Services and Innovation.
Voice of America Director David Ensor told the group about how VOA produces news and information programs in 45 languages for people in some of the most information-denied environments around the globe. The group then toured VOA, which celebrated its 70th anniversary last year and uses a range of platforms to reach its audiences – from shortwave to social media to satellite TV.
Bruce Sherman, who heads the BBG’s Office of Strategy and Development, spoke about audience research, the direction the agency is headed and how its decisions are made. The visit ended with a presentation by Rob Bole, who leads the Office of Digital and Design Innovation, to demonstrate current and up-and-coming projects to help support BBG journalists produce news and information programs using the most modern available tools.
The Partnership for a Secure America (PSA) is a nonprofit founded by former U.S. Representative Lee Hamilton and U.S. Senator Warren Rudman to advance bipartisanship on today’s critical national security and foreign policy challenges.
