SiriusXM Satellite Radio to carry Radio Martí programs
Two popular Radio Martí programs will now be available on SiriusXM Satellite Radio, thanks to an agreement between the Office of Cuba Broadcasting and National Latino Broadcasting. The arrangement provides another way for audiences in Cuba to receive balanced and unbiased news.
“We’re thrilled to have this new avenue for reaching Cuba,” said Director of OCB Carlos García-Pérez. “Information there remains tightly controlled by the government, and this agreement makes it possible for more Cubans to get access to the uncensored news they need.”
Martí programs to air on SiriusXM Satellite Radio include Entre Nosotros (Between Us), hosted by Cuban author and poet Orlando Gonzalez Esteva, features a variety of topics to educate and entertain, mixing the serious with the amusing, reality and fantasy, Cuban history with folklore, peaking the imagination and curiosity of listeners. Entre Nosotros will air from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The second offering is the fast-paced show 1800 Online, hosted by Lizandra Diaz Blanco and Juan Juan Almeida, that features irreverent interviews with bloggers, artists, entrepreneurs, technology aficionados, sports and entertainment celebrities, all the while connecting Cubans living on and off the island. Back-to-back episodes of 1800 Online will air from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The Radio Martí programming will air on channel 153 on SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, Monday through Friday 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. time slot (EST). Channel 153 is operated by National Latino Broadcasting LLC (NLB).
Talent Bios:
Orlando Gonzalez Esteva was born, in Palma Soriano, Cuba, in 1952 and has lived in Miami since 1965. He has published several books of poems and essays in the United States, Mexico, Spain and has vast experience as author of numerous and original scripts for radio and stage as well as producer of Cuban music recitals.
Lizandra Díaz Blanco is a Cuban journalist and multimedia broadcaster who has been living in the U.S. and working at Radio and TV Martí for almost four years. She began her journalism studies in Cuba and is currently finishing her degree at Florida International University.
Juan Juan Almeida graduated in Cuba with a degree in Political Science. Known at an analyst and writer, he was first awarded for a short story literary contest in Argentina and in 2009 published “Memoirs of an unknown Cuban guerrilla” a satirical testament to the decay of the political power elite in Cuba.
