From Iraq to Nebraska: A Yazidi journey of faith on Alhurra TV
Springfield, VA — Alhurra Television goes to the heartland to highlight the largest Yazidi population in the United States in the original documentary Yazidis: A Long Road to Healing. The hour-long documentary shows the complex and tragic history of the Yazidi people and current crisis they are facing with ISIL, including one Yazidi women who talks about the unimaginable cruelty she suffered at the hands of ISIL fighters. They kept her and other Yazidi women as their sex slaves after raiding their homes in Sinjar.
Yazidis: A Long Road to Healing also interviews Yazidi-Americans that migrated to Lincoln, Nebraska, determined to provide a better life for their families. They have grown to become the largest Yazidi community in the United States. The documentary looks at the freedoms and daily life of the Yazidi-Americans in Nebraska, as well as the challenges they have faced.
“This is an important story that is not well known outside of Lincoln. We wanted to show our Arabic-speaking audience the life that the Yazidi community has been able to make for itself in Lincoln,” stated MBN President Brian Conniff. MBN manages and oversees Alhurra Television. “It shows how the community embraced the Yazidi people and their traditions, without shying away from some of the challenges the Yazidis face. The documentary demonstrates the resilience of the Yazidi people.”
Filmed in Lalish, Iraq, and Lincoln, Nebraska, Yazidis: A Long Road to Healing tells the story of a brave group of people who sacrificed everything to move a half a world away. Yazidis: A Long Road to Healing will air on Alhurra Television on July 15th at 20:00 (GMT).
Yazidis: A Long Road to Healing is the latest Alhurra production that focuses on people and sects that have come to the United States from the Middle East/North Africa region. The long-running Alhurra series Almajalla profiles Arab-Americans from all walks of life. Alhurra flagship program Al Youm’s America segments highlight stories of Americana from across the country.
