Covering Climate Change
The Broadcasting Board of Governors’ (BBG) Development and International Media Training Office and The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) partnered in hosting a group of journalists from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Hosted by Steven Shalita, Senior Communications Officer of CIF, Gustavo Win, Senior Development Officer of BBG, and Iscar Blanco, Spanish Service Chief of Broadcast to Latin America VOA, this media training aimed at equipping journalists in the LAC region with skills and practices needed to report accurately and effectively on climate changes. During and after the training people filed/broadcast stories about their Partnership Forum to their home country media outlet. The agenda included a mix of journalism topics relevant to the reporters work and issues relevant to the International Forum. Important topics such as Climate Change Mitigation, Sustainable Land Management, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, and Policies for Building Adaptive Capacity and Resilience to Climate Change were discussed at this media training. Funded by the World Bank, 24 people attended this media training in hopes of gaining training in reporting accurate news on climate changes.
