Social Media Training: Cote D’Ivoire and Democratic Republic of Congo
VOA experts conducted training for affiliates on how to best use social media. The first part of the training was held in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire. Reporters from Chad, Niger, Cote D’Ivoire and Benin participated. The second part of the training was held in Kinshasa, DRC.
Journalists learned how to use a variety of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Periscope, YouTube, WhatsApp and SnapChat to post content, promote their stories and increase their audience reach nationally and internationally.
The training also included hands-on sessions on how to use mobile devices to report stories. Topics covered during these sessions included: sound gathering, photos and lighting, video recording and the basic elements needed for a comprehensive multimedia report.
Participants discussed journalistic ethics, tools that journalists can use to verify the authenticity of social media posts and the responsibility that comes with being active on social media.
