“The Horses Shot Along With Me” by Radio Farda journalist shortlisted at AIBs
RFE/RL’s Iranian Service, Radio Farda, journalist Azadeh Asadi produced the 25-minute radio program “The Horses Shot Along With Me” which is one of five entries shortlisted in the category “Audio: Human Interest” by the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) for the AIBs 2017.
The documentary tells a powerful story about the people who scratch out a living by smuggling goods through the mountains along the frontier between Iranian and Iraqi Kurdistan. In addition to treacherous mountain paths and minefields, they must deal with the dangers posed by Iranian border guards who seem to derive pleasure from torturing and killing the smugglers’ beloved horses and pack animals.
2017 marks the 13th year of these independent, influential and respected awards. The AIBs 2017 gala will take place in London on Wednesday 1 November 2017, hosted by Matthew Amroliwala, host of Global on BBC World News.
“The Horses Shot Along With Me” was also a Finalist in the 2017 New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards held in June. The annual competition honors excellence in radio programming from radio stations, networks, and independent producers from around the globe.
