Radio Farda documentary shortlisted in AIBs
A Radio Farda documentary has been shortlisted for the 13th annual AIBs—the international awards for factual video, audio, and interactive production.
The 25-minute radio program, “The Horses Shot Along With Me” by Radio Farda journalist Azadeh Asadi, is one of five entries selected in the category “Audio: Human Interest.”
The documentary tells a powerful story about the people who scratch out a living by smuggling goods through the mountains along the frontier between Iranian and Iraqi Kurdistan. In addition to treacherous mountain paths and minefields, they must deal with the dangers posed by Iranian border guards who seem to derive pleasure from torturing and killing the smugglers’ beloved horses and pack animals.
The winners of the 2017 AIBs will be announced at a gala in London on November 1, which will be hosted by Matthew Amroliwala, presenter of Global with Matthew Amroliwala on BBC World News. The Association for International Broadcasting is an industry association for international television, radio, print, and web journalism professionals.
“The Horses Shot Along With Me” was also a Finalist in the 2017 New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards held in June. The annual competition honors excellence in radio programming from radio stations, networks, and independent producers from around the globe.
Since the first AIBs were awarded 13 years ago, the awards have recognized over 10 RFE/RL productions for journalistic excellence. Last year the RFE/RL Russian Service documentary “She Was Called Tatiana” was a Finalist in the Specialist Program category.
