DRC: Gender-based violence
Journalists were trained to build greater capacity and understanding in dealing with the issue of gender-based violence and its consequences. The workshop was facilitated by IAJ on Gender-Based Violence, from 12–14 June 2017, at the Royal Hotel in Kinshasa, DRC. Twenty journalists from radio, television and print media attended.
Throughout the training session, topics revolved around gender-based violence, Reproductive health care, and HIV/AIDS. Delegates were introduced to prevailing issues that impact the society and learned about ways to increase media knowledge and awareness towards those sensitive topics.
The course increased journalists’ knowledge on the subject of gender-based violence their commitment to tackling the issues in the stories. The outcomes Improved journalists understanding of gender-based violence and the level of involvement of journalists in the fight against gender-based violence, strengthening journalists’ skills and capacities to tackle these issues with greater professionalism in the broader national and African dialogue on the subject.
