Nigeria: Data journalism and social media training in Lagos and Port Harcourt
BBG trainers focused on social media and data journalism at two training sessions in Lagos, October 16–17, 2017, and Port Harcourt, October 19–20, 2017. The social media component covered composing promotions for greater reach, effective use of images and video, create content partners and producing Facebook Live programs. The data journalism sessions explored investigative reporting, ethics, data encryption, and internet circumvention tools.
Journalists at both sessions were tasked with creating a video interview about Nigerians studying at American universities. Journalists were keen to discuss the role of fake news and how to stop it.
Participants came from a range of outlets, including print, digital and broadcast. About 25 participants were trained at each venue.
The training was organized by the U.S. Department of State.
