Dom. Republic: Digital video journalism
Cadena de Noticias (CDN), a TV station in Santo Domingo, and one of the key BBG/VOA partners in the Dominican Republic, received a one-day workshop on ethics and digital video journalism for their 32 reporters and management personal on April 22th, 2018. The workshop was held at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Journalists were trained on using mobile devices to produce media reports, and upload and develop social media campaigns. As part of the training, we discussed the consumption behavior of the new social media generation and how to write news for them. Using social media postings and videos from BBG Direct, CDN attendees practiced shooting and editing video on mobile phones.
Journalists received tips on the best methods of shooting and sequencing when taking videos, ways to tell a story with just one picture, and a checklist for conducting interviews.
The training was praised by Claudia Rodriguez, CDN TV News Coordinator, as “a great opportunity to have a complete all-day training from VOA/BBG staff and discuss and practice editorial exercise.”
