New name, same mission
On August 22, 2018, the Broadcasting Board of Governors changed its name to the United States Agency for Global Media.
The new name better explains to constituents the work and significance of the Agency and its networks.
USAGM remains committed to objective journalism. Insulated by a firewall from political influence, its networks serve as a credible free press in countries that lack one, while presenting a rigorously honest picture of the U.S. around the world.
Through its international programming, USAGM supports democracy and press freedom. It counters misinformation and propaganda. And in doing so, it serves a vital role in U.S. public diplomacy and national security.
