Alhurra wins at the Webbys
Springfield, VA — The report entitled “Power of Forgiveness” won the People’s Voice Award in the category of Best Documentary: Shortform at the 2019 Webby Awards. It was selected by online voting as best report in its category.
The report, produced by ElSaha.com, which is a part of the Alhurra.com platform, chronicles the story of Rukiye Abdul-Mutakallim, a Muslim-American mother whose son was gunned down on the streets of Cincinnati. Her son, who served in the Navy, was killed and left on the streets so that the perpetrators could steal his $40. She talks about the pain of losing her child and the strength her faith gave her to forgive the men who murdered her son.
“This report brings together outstanding storytelling and the powerful message of forgiveness. It is a great example of the types of reports MBN is focusing on since the relaunch,” stated Middle East Broadcasting Networks President Alberto Fernandez. MBN manages and oversees Alhurra.com. “The Power of Forgiveness showcases the excellent work of MBN’s very talented digital team.”
The recognition comes just six months after MBN completed the largest transformation in its 14-year history. MBN substantially increased the amount of news produced by all of its networks and is focusing broadening the content with more diverse and hard-hitting topics and storytelling. ElSaha.com was launched as part of the transformation of MBN and highlights Egyptian stories through compelling videos.
