Health in DRC: Roles and Responsibilities of Journalists
The workshop helped improve skills of health reporting countering fake news on COVID-19
Journalists discussed the challenges of reporting on health in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Dr. Nsambi Bland Joseph, Minister of Health for the Provincial Government of Haut-Katanga, spoke to journalists about the impact of COVID-19 in the province. Trainees learned about vaccination challenges and had the opportunity to discuss how journalists can assist in informing the public, and counter rumors and fake news around COVID-19.
Trainees learned methods and tools to research health issues, ran through practical exercises on fact-checking and verification of text, photos, and videos, and honed up their interviewing skills.
