USAGM statement on fallen journalist Vira Hyrych
Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) released the following statement on the passing of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) journalist Vira Hyrych, who was killed overnight in Kyiv after a Russian missile strike hit the residential building where she lived. Hyrych, born in 1967, began working for RFE/RL in February 2018.
“I was heartbroken to learn of the death of Vira Hyrych, a talented journalist and producer for RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service, and a beloved daughter and mother. I join Vira’s family, the RFE/RL team, and the entire USAGM community in mourning her loss. We will honor Vira’s legacy of dedication to her work and kindness to all with a renewed commitment to bring unbiased news and information to light,” said Acting USAGM CEO Kelu Chao.
