VOA staff earns three Peter Lisagor Awards
Washington, D.C. — Voice of America’s staff won three 2023 Peter Lisagor Awards from the Chicago Headline Club, the Chicago chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
VOA Midwest correspondent Kane Farabaugh and VOA videographer Adam Greenbaum won in the “Best Interview (Audio or Video)” category for their television segment, “The Artemis Generation: An Interview with NASA Astronaut Victor Glover,” and in the “Best Political and Government Reporting” category for their piece, “The Inside Story: Flight of the Translators,” alongside VOA employees Carolyn Presutti, Saqib Ul Islam, Jean Michel Mathurin, Steve Redisch, Brian Allen and David Futrowsky. Farabaugh won additional recognition in the “Best Deadline Reporting” category for his story, “Survivors Search for Answers as Chicago Area Mourns Mass Shooting Victims.”
This year, the VOA staff qualified as finalists for 10 awards categories, the most nominations ever received by VOA in a single year.
“Congratulations to Kane and our DC staff for winning three awards this year,” said Acting VOA Director Yolanda Lόpez. “I’m so proud to see our employees earning the recognition they deserve as they further VOA’s mission of telling America’s story, from the frontlines in Afghanistan to new frontiers of space.”
Every year, the Chicago Headline Club, the oldest chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, honors the best journalism produced across the Chicago region in more than 100 categories, including newspapers, magazines, television, radio and digital media, with the Peter Lisagor Awards. Peter Lisagor served as the Washington bureau chief of the Chicago Daily News from 1959 to 1976, becoming widely known as one of the most well-respected journalists in the United States.
