Ecuador: Best practices for covering the Amazon and climate change
More than 700 journalists, editors, academics, students, and guests, gathered in the city of El Puyo, in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon, to participate in the Second Amazon Summit on Journalism and Climate Change 2022, held from June 15 to 17, 2023.
Organized by Fundamedios and in collaboration with USAGM, Iscar Blanco, USAGM Regional Marketing Officer and Hector Manuel Castro, Office of Cuba Broadcasting Standards and Best Practices Editor, offered six workshops and discussions on best practices, avoid activism, copyright, and use of new technologies.
The summit featured practical workshops where Voice of America (VOA) correspondent Stephanie Martinez trained participants on the use of cell phones to record and produce videos on environmental crimes. VOA correspondent in Quito, Nestor Aguilera served as moderator on various panels on security and journalistic protection.
The goal was to create dialogues on the best ways to communicate climate change and environmental crimes in the Amazon.
