Security of journalists in hostile zones
Training for 74 affiliates in DRC and RoC
Representatives from 74 USAGM affiliates in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Republic of Congo (RoC) participated in a training held in Nairobi, Kenya to help journalists stay safe while working in hostile zones. The training, titled“Security of journalists in hostile zones” was chosen because of upcoming December elections in the DRC as well as the conflict that exists in the Eastern DRC.
This is the first time a training has been offered to all partner stations of the DRC and RoC at one time. The three day training included: registration on Direct, a content sharing platform offered by USAGM, information on Voice of America (VOA) content in French, Lingala and Swahili, technical questions and best placement of content. Collaborator, SEPAR International, created a training which included situational awareness, personal physical security, stress/stressors and trauma, basic general notion of first aid and field exercises including a simulation of a carjacking.
