Colombia: Best practices and editorial decisions
A workshop on Best Practices for directors of radio, television and websites associated with USAGM.
On October 20, 2023, USAGM’s Office of Business Development convened a group of 20 radio and television directors and editors from Colombia. The primary purpose was to share the Best Practices manual with them and engage in discussions about various scenarios and decision-making processes that directors, editors, and news producers often encounter.
During this six-hour training session, USAGM Regional Marketing Officer (RMO) Iscar Blanco and Martí’s Standard and Practices representative, Hector Manuel Castro, conducted a comprehensive training program tailored specifically for directors. The focus was on making responsible and ethical decisions while balancing the values of the newsroom with the demands of the audience.
This extensive training offered media directors valuable insights into emerging trends in the media industry, digital security measures, and best practices. It equipped television and radio directors with the necessary skills and knowledge to source and report information ethically and reliably within their respective stations.
The meeting also served as an opportunity for the participants to gain a better understanding of USAGM, including VOA and Martí, and included a presentation about the new content offerings from VOA.
