Mexico: Digital coverage in times of misinformation
The American University of Puebla, Mexico, along with USAGM’s Business Development Office of Training, organized a series of four conferences covering topics such as fake news, electoral coverage, and freedom of the press. These conferences were aimed at journalists and journalism students in preparation for the Mexican presidential elections on June 2nd.
The first conference, led by Gesell Tobias, Managing Editor of the Latin America Division of the Voice of America, was moderated by Dr. Sam Stone, a professor in the Department of International Relations and Political Sciences.
The event, which was also coordinated by Isabela Zozoaga, President of the Council of Women Journalists and Writers of Puebla (AMPEP), saw participation from over 150 media representatives and students from the Mexican university.
During the two-hour dialogue, experts, journalists, scholars, and students engaged in meaningful discussions, receiving enthusiastic applause from the audience. The attendees expressed high appreciation for USAGM’s significant contribution to Mexican journalism through this initiative.
