VOA wins five Chesapeake AP Awards in multiple categories
Washington, D.C. — Voice of America won first prize in multiple categories in this year’s Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association contest. CAPBA announced the awards at its annual ceremony in Ocean City, Md., on June 1, 2024.
VOA Midwest correspondent Kane Farabaugh won Best in Show-Television, designated in the All Divisions category, for “Inside Story: A Shadow Over Dallas” in the Best Producer category. Issued in November 2023, the program coincided with the 60th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963. The VOA News Center’s Michael Lipin and Steve Miller won first place for Best Podcast-Audio, also in the All Divisions category, for “Flashpoint Iran: Why Iran’s Proxies Seek to ‘Drag Out’ Low-Level Conflict with Israel.”
In the TV 1/Large Market division, Farabaugh won first place in the Best Producer category for the aforementioned Dallas program. Other VOA winners in the same division included first place for the VOA News Center’s team, Elizabeth Lee, Jessica Jerreat and Amy Katz, in the Outstanding Documentary/In-Depth Reporting category for “From Fear to Freedom: A Uyghur’s Journey.”
In the Radio 1/Metro division, VOA’s Pentagon reporter, Carla Babb, won first place for Best Specialty Reporting, recognizing her “U.S. Military Beat” work in this category.
“Congratulations to all of the VOA journalists recognized this year once again by CAPBA for their outstanding work across multiple formats and mediums,” said Acting VOA Director John Lippman.
The annual CAPBA journalism contest is open to journalists in Washington D.C., Maryland and Delaware who work for AP members. Voice of America maintains licensing agreements with AP and other providers for content used in VOA’s programming intended for a global audience.
