USAGM remembers former CEO John Lansing
USAGM CEO Amanda Bennett released the following statement on the passing of John Lansing:
“John Lansing served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director of the U.S. Agency for Global Media from 2015-2019. When he hired me as Director of Voice of America in 2016, it was the honor of a lifetime.
John loved journalism, and all that it stands for. He brought that passion to USAGM as a tireless advocate for our journalists, staff, and mission to connect people around the world in support of freedom and democracy. His leadership made a tremendous impact on our agency, resulting in a dramatic increase in our global audience under his tenure. John’s vision and spirit of collaboration inspired us to grow, innovate, and modernize. From recognizing and leaning into the emerging importance of digital news and information, to enhancing internet freedom initiatives, to honoring the bravery and courage of our journalists by prioritizing their safety – his vision was transformative, and we all benefitted from his acumen and experience.
I offer my deepest condolences to John’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. John was a beloved colleague, mentor, and friend to many, and he will be sorely missed.”
