Lobo Honored for Service to Broadcasting
International Broadcasting Bureau Director Richard Lobo was honored with the Gold Circle Award by the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for outstanding service to broadcasting over a career that has spanned more than fifty years.
Lobo, who was appointed to head the IBB by President Obama two years ago, is an award winning journalist and manager who worked at stations in Miami, Tampa, Cleveland, New York, and Chicago.
A graduate of the University of Miami, Lobo began his career at WTVJ in Miami. After working in other major markets, he returned to WTVJ as president general manager when the station won the Peabody Award, the DuPont Award and the Edward R. Murrow Award for its coverage of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
Lobo was honored Dec. 1 at the 2012 Suncoast Emmy Awards in Fort Lauderdale.
