Radio Sawa Interviews Sen. John McCain on Syria
Radio Sawa’s Washington correspondent Zaid Oshana interviewed Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who shared his thoughts on Syria and what the U.S. should do. He stated, “I think we should give thousands of weapons to the resistance, we do know the people to give it to. Look, there is no option that is perfect. I would give surface-to-air handheld weapons to take out these helicopters that are dropping these MANPADS [Man-portable Air Defence System].”
He also suggested a solution for the humanitarian crisis. “I would also establish humanitarian zone to try and care for some of these refugees, because sooner or later some of these countries are going to be overloaded with these refugees. And to block them from leaving could be a horrible tragedy.”
Sen. McCain went on to say, we need to “recognize chemical weapons are not the problem. The problem is the brutality that is being practiced by Bashar al Assad.”
