RFA providing coverage of Hong Kong protests
Radio Free Asia’s Cantonese and Mandarin services have been closely covering the pro-democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong and providing accurate and unbiased news about the developments to audiences in mainland China. The thousands of students and concerned Hong Kong citizens are expressing discontent with Beijing over its decision to vet candidates for Hong Kong’s public executive leadership. The demonstrations come amid tighter restrictions on press freedoms in the former British territory, which was handed over to China under a one-country, two-systems agreement in 1997.
