‘Faces of Srebrenica’ project overwhelmed by response
Twenty years after Europe’s worst single atrocity since World War II, RFE/RL’s Dzenana Halimovic wanted to ensure that the victims — and not just the names — are remembered. Faces of Srebrenica is an attempt to collect photos of all the more than 8,000 victims.
When the project launched she had more than 2,400 photos. But in the days since, Halimovic has been inundated with responses; families of people killed in the Srebrenica massacre have sent around 100 new photos of victims.
