National Broadcaster Training
A continuing education seminar was held at Radiodiffusion – Télévision Ivoirienne called “Finding the Local in the National,” which explored how journalists can make national (and international) news more relevant to their audience. The four-day seminar– which was attended by 18 reporters, producers, camera operators and videotape editors – was aimed at journalists with three to ten years of experience.
Television Magazines
18 journalists, including reporters, producers, camera operators, video editors and radio journalists were taught to write a radio-style report.
The workshop also featured a discussion of the different types of long-form journalism – documentaries, enterprise reporting and magazine stories.
Radio Al Bayane
A seminar on health and education reporting was held at Radio Al Bayane, the only national Islamic radio in Côte d’Ivoire.
Radio Yopougon
A full-day radio seminar was held at Radio Yopougon, a commune on the western edge of greater Abidjan. Sixteen journalists and anchors gathered in a small, dark recording studio for a presentation on the state of the media.
Photography
At the U.S. Embassy, a seminar was held for 22 news and public relation photographers, a group which included civil servants from the Ministry of Communication, newspaper reporters and agency photographers.
