What changes in a post-Karimov Uzbekistan?
The Central Asia Program (CAP) at George Washington University promotes high-quality academic and policy research on contemporary Central Asia, and serves as an interface for the policy, academic, diplomatic, and business communities. CAP focuses on the wider Central Asian space, which includes the five post-Soviet Central Asian states (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan), Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Xinjiang, Mongolia, as well as the Volga-Ural region, Kashmir, and Balochistan.
In partnership with RFE/RL, CAP is hosting a panel of experts, including RFE/RL’s Bruce Pannier, that will look at the sociopolitical and economic implications for Central Asian power Uzbekistan of the recent death of the country’s longtime ruler, Islam Karimov.
