EXCLUSIVE: Senators McCain, Klobuchar, Graham vow no “Faustian bargain” with Russia, pledge to target Putin “harder”
Washington, D.C. — In an exclusive interview today in Kyiv, U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told RFE/RL Ukrainian Service correspondent Olena Removska that the U.S. Congress will pursue more sanctions against Russia for its alleged involvement in hacks into Democratic Party e-mails before the November 8 U.S. presidential election.
Senator McCain also told RFE/RL that the United States will not strike a “Faustian bargain” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, amid speculation that President-elect Donald Trump could scrap sanctions in a bid to improve ties. McCain said any possible deal with Putin “would interfere with and undermine the freedom and democracies that exist today.”
Interview excerpts and text reports have also been posted to the websites of RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service, Russian Service, and Current Time digital network.
