Alhurra’s “Gulf Talks” introduces a new host, format
Springfield, VA — On February 3, 2017, Alhurra Television’s Gulf Talks unveiled a new format that examines the most critical issues in the Gulf region, including emerging topics in politics, culture and the economy. Accomplished Saudi journalist Sukina Al-Mushaikhis joined the network as the show’s new host.
In each episode, Al-Mushaikhis covers two major topics to get to the heart of the challenges Gulf citizens face. Topics include human rights, the rights of ethnic and religious minorities, the balance between extremism and religious tolerance, and the political and economic role of women in the Gulf states. Al-Mushaikhis holds in-depth interviews with intellectuals and experts from a variety of fields with various points of view.
Social media interaction is now an integral part of Gulf Talks. Audiences are invited to participate in the discussion by posting their comments and reactions on the program’s social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat.
The show’s first two episodes address current, highly-debated topics including: the debate over reopening movie theaters in Saudi Arabia, the controversial proposals to impose additional fees and taxes on expatriates in Kuwait, continued social media monitoring by Gulf state governments, and the new Sultanate of Oman foreign policy of neutrality since joining Saudi Arabia’s anti-terrorism coalition.
