Independent journalists harassed while trying to report chaos in Baracoa
Rolando Rodríguez Lobaina was arrested along with Manuel León Velázquez, a journalist from Diario de Cuba. Both were released hours after receiving threats that they would go to jail.
The director of the audiovisual project Palenque Visión , Rolando Rodríguez Lobaina, was arrested on Friday morning by police forces in the municipality of Baracoa, Guantánamo, several sources said.
Rodríguez Lobaina was arrested along with Diario de Cuba journalist Manuel León Velázquez, as reported Celeste Matos, content director of Latin America , an agency that produces audiovisuals, with links to independent journalists on the island.
Both Lobaina and León Velázquez had been investigating for a week about the disasters caused by Hurricane Matthew in that eastern part of Cuba, and the authorities have kept it with rigorous zeal.
