Ecuador: Digital Radio
Reporters, editors and students from across Ecuador participated in a series of conferences entitled “Digital Radio: Challenges and Opportunities,” May 8-12, 2017. Participants learned key journalistic tenets in radio reporting. Topics included balance and objectivity in political and economic stories, the fundamentals of copyright, and citing sources.
The conferences — held at universities in Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca — also looked at how radio stations can organize their operations, move to digital, and improve marketing and promotion.
Iscar Blanco, a trainer for the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), conducted sessions on broadcast writing, news gathering, trends including podcasting and audio streaming, and challenges and opportunities for digital radio.
Todd Chapman, U.S. Ambassador in Ecuador, applauded the importance of VOA works with public media as ‘Medios Publicos.’
“I think this type of cooperation will result in a very important job,” said Ambassador Chapman.
Martin Sumaniego Coronel, General Manager from ‘Radio La Voz de Ingupirca,’ said that the training “was an excellent opportunity for small radios to learn from VOA.”
