Pakistan PM disqualified from office

Pakistan’s Supreme Court today (July 28) disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who resigned after the court ruled he was unfit to hold office and ordered a criminal investigation into his family over corruption allegations stemming from the 2016 publication of the Panama Papers.

The court decision comes at a critical time for Pakistan and could have serious implications for the stability and security of the country, Islamabad’s fight against the Taliban and ISIS militants in Pakistan’s lawless tribal region, and by extension to the stability and security of neighboring Afghanistan.
