On the VOA casualties in Mogadishu
The tragic events in Mogadishu have devastated so many lives, and I was saddened to learn that they affected the U.S international media family as well.
The death of cameraman Ali Nur Siad is a loss not only for his family and colleagues here at VOA but for the people of Somalia as well. He and VOA Somali reporter Abdulkadir Mohamed Abdulle, who was injured in the attack, put their lives on the line to bring news and information to their countrymen.
Their pursuit of the truth and service to their country will not be forgotten.
