Liberia: Reporting on elections
BBG organized a training for Liberian reporters, editors, and managers, on political reporting in advance of Liberia’s presidential elections from September 4th through 6th in Monrovia, Liberia. Journalists practiced researching, writing, interviewing, production techniques and using social media and mobile technology in election coverage.
Preliminary sessions covered an overview of the journalism profession and its challenges, ethics and election coverage and principles of effective reporting. Participants planned coverage of the elections and beyond. They focused on the future of journalism with the use of social and new media to expand audiences, writing for the web and using mobile devices to record, edit, produce and disseminate reports.
The participants produced video reports using their mobile devices that were subsequently critiqued by the group. Later, Participants were awarded certificates of achievement prizes were awarded to the best reports.
