Reportage Covers the U.S. Withdrawal from Iraq
As part of its special coverage of the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq by the end of 2011, Alhurra-Iraq aired an hour-long special episode of Reportage on Sunday, December 4th, entitled End of the Mission. This episode explored opinions and views of several Iraqi and U.S. politicians and policy makers. The commentators reflected on the phases of the U.S. military presence in Iraq since 2003 and discussed their expectations for the security situation after the withdrawal. Recent surveys by international research companies such as ACNielsen show that Alhurra has consistently averaged approximately 26 million weekly viewers for the last three years. Alhurra is operated by the non-profit corporation “The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc.” (MBN). MBN is financed by the U.S. Government through a grant from the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency. The BBG serves oversight and as a firewall to protect the professional independence and integrity of the broadcasters.
