Alhurra Interviews Rep. Payne on Sudan
Alhurra’s Congressional Correspondent Rana Abtar conducted an interview with Congressman Donald M. Payne (D-NJ), Chairman of House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health regarding Sudan’s upcoming referendum vote. Rep. Payne said that the government of Sudan should respect the outcome of the referendum and that the Bashir regime will take seriously the importance that the international community puts on this referendum. He also expressed concern if the situation regarding Abyei is not resolved prior to the referendum vote.
Rep. Payne added, “Once the referendum takes place and the results come out, I think that the government of Sudan realizes that the world is very serious about the referendum and simply will not tolerate any post-referendum violence.” Rep. Payne’s interview will be a part of Alhurra’s more than 10 hours of live continuous coverage of Sudan’s historic referendum vote on January 9th.
