BBG Networks Nominated for 13 AIB Awards
The networks of the Broadcasting Board of Governors are finalists for 13 Association for International Broadcasting Media Excellence Awards for 2013.
The short list for the awards, known as the AIBs, reflects the best of global TV and radio production and technology. Winners will be announced on November 6 in London.
Voice of America has received five nominations. “Coney Island Rebirth” was nominated in the “Short Report or Documentary/TV” category; from the VOA Persian Service, OnTen’s Iranian Election Special is a finalist in the “Specialist Genre Program or Series” category; and for best international radio personality, Paul Westpheling (retired) of VOA’s International Edition and Steve Ember of VOA Learning English are finalists. VOA also received a nomination in the “Production Technology” category for VOA Khmer Service’s iPhone interview with Oun Phea.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty has been nominated for three awards. “In the Footsteps of Sandzak Youths Who Fight in Syria” from RFE/RL’s Balkan Service is nominated in the “Current Affairs Documentary/Radio” category; Radio Farda’s radio series “The Victims of 88 (AKA 2009)” is a finalist in the “Investigative Documentary/Radio” category; and Radio Free Afghanistan’s “Afghan Brickworks, Family Trapped in Cycle of Debt” has been nominated for “Short Report or Documentary/TV.”
Middle East Broadcasting Networks received three nominations. The Afia Darfur episode on Darfurian refugees has been nominated in the “Live Radio Journalism” category. Alhurra TV’s Rayheen Ala Fain? is a finalist in the “Specialist Genre Program or Series” category and Street Pulse’s episode on Child Labor has been nominated for “Middle East TV Documentary.”
Radio Free Asia has been nominated for two awards. Its e-book “Remembering Tiananmen” has been nominated in the “Production Technology” category, and the Uyghur Service’s series “Lost but not Forgotten: Justice Sought for Missing Uyghurs” received nods in the “Investigative Documentary/Radio” category.
