BBG Holds Board Meeting at RFE’s Prague Headquarters
The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) met this week in Prague, Czech Republic, at the headquarters of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL). The Board also took part in a townhall discussion with RFE/RL employees and met with former Czech President Vaclav Havel.
This was the first visit to RFE/RL’s main broadcast facility for Chairman Walter Isaacson and governors Dennis Mulhaupt, S. Enders Wimbush, Victor Ashe, and Michael Meehan, whose nominations to the BBG were confirmed by the U.S. Senate in June. The governors also took part in the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of RFE/RL, Inc. and held working meetings with RFE journalists, broadcast service directors, and other staff on a range of topics including radio broadcasting and social media strategy.
At the BBG meeting, the Board voted to approve Board By-Laws, a schedule for meetings in 2011, and recommendations of the Strategy and Budget Committee.
The Board discussed the fate of Abdumalik Boboev, a journalist for VOA’s Uzbek Service who is on trial in Uzbekistan, and adopted the following resolution expressing concern:
