Factchecking and verification tools for journalists in Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia
Twenty-one journalists from Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia improved their understanding of the role of the media in countering fake news, editorial policies, and building mechanisms on fact-checking inside newsrooms. Journalists learned how stereotypes and biased reporting impact headlines, and the selection and layout of images and ways to ensure content is fair and balanced. They practiced fact-checking and verification of information on the economy, finances, and business registers to find data on offshore networks of companies and economic fraud. The journalists also reviewed case studies on how to build audiences and strategic litigation precedents that guarantee open data for fact-checking on corruption, organized crime cases, and investigations on the justice system.
