Dominican Republic: New audiences in news media
A 120-minute conversation about the future of journalism.
On September 5, 2023, the USAGM Business Development Office of Marketing and Training organized a 120-minute virtual workshop in collaboration with the ‘Colegio de Periodistas de Guayacanes’ (Guayacanes Journalist Association) from the Dominican Republic. This workshop revolved around discussions on strategies for creating compelling content, digital languages, marketing, metrics, and strategic programming tailored for new audiences.
USAGM Regional Marketing Officer (RMO) Iscar Blanco conducted the virtual training, engaging with 50 members of the Dominican Journalist Association. The training encompassed various key aspects, including the evolution of media, audience targeting, techniques for creating engaging content, digital languages, marketing, metrics, strategic programming for emerging audiences, and the future of media, including streaming and Over-the-top media services (OTT) platforms.
Mr. Santo Corporan, the news director of Guayacanes FM and the event’s organizer, expressed his appreciation for the valuable opportunities presented by the USAGM and the US Embassy, addressing contemporary subjects that are essential for Dominican journalists.
The two-hour webinar concluded with a productive brainstorming session, during which participants shared ideas for newscasts, news program proposals, and concepts for documentaries, reports, and the future of journalism.
