Solutions journalism for reporting nature crimes in Ghana
Second training in a two-year project on Combatting Nature Crimes in Ghana
This three-day workshop explored a news reporting method known as solutions journalism, which focuses on the responses to social issues as well as the problems. With an emphasis on nature crime issues, it offered a practical component of how to use the new media tools for news stories. Training participants improved understanding of solutions journalism and their capacity to report on responses to criminal forms of logging, mining, wildlife trade, land conversion, and associated criminal activities, as well as those associated with fishing in regional, national, and international contexts. They learned the difference between solutions reporting and advocacy work, and created solutions stories through research, observation and reporting on nature crimes.
