Colombia: Journalism, ethics, and new audiences
A workshop and discussion about the future of journalism.
On October 23, 2023, a collaborative effort between USAGM’s Business Development, the Bacata Cultural Center in Funza, and Universidad Minuto de Dios in Bogota resulted in a workshop dedicated to exploring best practices, copyright issues, ethical conduct in newsrooms, and digital marketing strategies.
During this six-hour workshop, Regional Marketing Officer (RMO) Iscar Blanco and Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB) Standards & Practices Editor Hector Manuel Castro provided training to over 30 participants from the Bacata Cultural Center and Universidad Minuto de Dios. The topics covered included “Best Practices,” “Digital Security,” and “New Audiences.”
The workshop concluded with an engaging question and answer session, which was moderated by Javier Eduardo Peña, the audiovisual coordinator of the Bacata Cultural Center in Funza. For more than two hours, participants actively inquired about various subjects, including the history of VOA, Martí’s transmissions to Cuba, freedom of the press, USAGM’s content, and the future of AI.
