Alhurra Interviews George Clooney Outside the Sudanese Embassy
Prior to his arrest outside the Sudanese Embassy, actor and activist George Clooney spoke to Alhurra’s Khaled Khairy about his stand against the Sudanese government. In the brief interview, Clooney stated that the Sudanese government should allow humanitarian aid into that country. He went on to say that the Sudanese regime is killing it citizens and called for the White House and Congress to work to put an end to the genocide in Sudan. Clooney and his father Nick Clooney were among those arrested outside the Sudanese Embassy after ignoring warnings by the police to vacate the Embassy. Earlier this week Clooney testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee calling for the U.S. to do more to help the Sudanese people.
George Clooney’s remarks were also carried on MBN’s Afia Darfur as a part of the program’s ongoing coverage of Sudan. Afia Darfur is a daily shortwave radio program that focuses on the latest news from Sudan and the plight of the displaced people in Darfur and eastern Chad. In addition to Clooney’s arrest, recent stories on Afia Darfur include a profile of Hawa Abdallah Mohammed Salih, an activist from Darfur who was recognized by the U.S. State Department on International Women’s Day and the negotiations for the upcoming talks between the presidents of Sudan and South Sudan.
